In the past we've published many haunted road trips where you can meander around the state visiting some super creepy spots, but this time we've put together the perfect weekend itinerary if you love exploring haunted places in South Carolina. There are haunted spots, restaurants and a haunted inn for you to spend the night before getting up to visit even more haunted places.

This trip starts in the upstate, but the Google Map is interactive so you can easily reverse the flow and start in Little River if that works better for you.

Haunted Poinsett Bridge

The oldest surviving stone bridge in South Carolina is home to some twisted spirits and occurrences. Some say the ghost of an upset slave haunts visitors to this landmark. Others have reported their car, phone and flashlight batteries mysteriously died here.

Crybaby Bridge

This old rusty icon near Anderson has come to represent the legend of a woman who tossed her crying baby from the bridge. Some people report hearing that baby cry, others report seeing an apparition of a woman wearing a white dress looking over the bridge.

Graniteville

This tiny town in South Carolina has a dark history that can never be forgotten. On top of that, it has one of the most haunted graveyards in the entire state. Pass through the town, stop at Graniteville Cemetery, and feel the dark despair that presides over this place.

The Tomb of Julia Legare

The legend surrounding this unsealed tomb on Ediso Island is beyond hair-raising. As the story goes, Julia Legare was accidentally buried alive in this family tomb but when the family reopened the tomb several years later to inter another family member, Julia's bones were laying in a pile just on the other side of the door. As if that's not enought to send chills up your spine...after the gruesome discovery each time they sealed the door closed on this tomb it was found the next morning laying next to the tomb!

Haunted Old City Jail

There's absolutely nothing more menacing than this spot in Charleston where reportedly as many as 14,000 lives were lost -- or taken. You'll need to reserve a tour time for this one. More information here.

Dinner at Charleston's most haunted restaurant

It may look like an ordinary house, but this former residence is haunted by more than one spirit. Haunted Poogan's Porch is a must-visit for both an unforgettable meal and - if you believe in this sort of thing - that haunting feeling that'll consume you during your meal. If you're lucky and you have an empty chair, maybe you'll also have an uninvited guest...

Overnight at this haunted inn - if you dare!

The Battery Carriage House Inn is the perfect spot on this haunted road trip to lay your head for the night -- not that you'll sleep. Many of the rooms here have hauntings, including a headless apparition that appears next to one of the beds. Creepy!

Kaminski Building

Circa 1842, the Kaminski Building on Front Street in Historic Georgetown is widely known to have regular hauntings. Now part of the Rice Museum, this structure has spooked many a patron with sounds of a pegleg apparition walking about. Folks also get an overwhelmingly eery feeling next to one of the antique pieces of furniture, so there may be a spirit attached to it.

Grave of Alice Flagg

No haunted interary would be complete without a visit to the grave marker of one of the state's most tragic love stories. Alice Flagg was forbidden by her father to marry the love of her life because he was "beneath her." She was sent away and when she returned she fell ill and died. Legend has it that if you walk backwards around her gravemarker thirteen times and then place a ring (a round object such as a coin will work) on the gravemarker the spirit of Alice Flagg will appear before you.

Eat at the haunted Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro

You'll be hungry after the hauntings at the Kaminski Building and the gravemarker of Alice Flagg. Wrap up this weekend with a trip to another haunted restaurant, the Brentwood in Little River. Folks have reported everything from orbs to singing voices within the walls and equipment that turns itself on and off at the haunted Brentwood. You can even make reservations for a haunted tour of the building! Very worth the trip.
