With hundreds of years under her belt, the Charleston area is easily one of the most haunted places in the South. But there's a ship in the harbor with a much shorter history of less than a hundred years, and she is considered by some to be among the most haunted places in the Lowcountry. Take a look:
The USS Yorktown was decommissioned in 1970 and became a museum at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant in 1975.
During WWII, Yorktown earned 12 battlestars and the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism in action. Yorktown later went on to earn five more battlestars during the Vietnam War.
Today, Yorktown is a museum at the heart of the Patriots Point maritime exhibits, and permanently securely in Charleston Harbor along the shores of Mount Pleasant.
There are many daily tours offered for those interested in seeing the innerworkings of this battle legend - or for those interested in a possible ghostly encounter. It's a faily common occurrence for guests on the Yorktown to feel a nudge from someone who just isn't there. Apparations spring up out of the blue, and cold spots occur in the weirdest places - even in the middle of summer.
If you believe in ghosts, this is one place you simply must tour in South Carolina, and bring your camera.
Some people leave the tour feeling disappointed they didn't see a ghost, but then they get home and look at the photos taken and find a completely different story. Recently, South Carolina ETV toured the ship looking for ghosts and you won't believe what they caught on their unmanned video cameras. Take a look at the SouthCarolinaETV youtube video below to learn what they found on the Yorktown.
Do you believe ghosts are real? Head to the USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant for a great chance to capture some hard evidence that ghosts do exist.
