Do you believe in ghosts or other paranormal phenomena? If not, then you may seriously reconsider after a visit to the most haunted playground in South Carolina, located in Herdklotz Park. Take a peek below to learn about the Greenville Tuberculosis Hospital and this playground and then decide if you have what it takes to endure the downright creepy things that have been reported here ...
First things first: what makes it so creepy? Let's explore the Herdklotz Park history.
It's built on the site of a former tuberculosis sanatorium where many afflicted and very ill patients from the 1930s to the 1950s would essentially be quarantined until they simply died. Although the park is now on the site, part of the basement of that old hospital is still intact.
Today, the property consists of a great deal of green space, as shown in the Google satellite image below.
However, that part in the center with all the playground equipment ... that's the part where the sprawling three-level sanatorium sat, until 2002 when it mysteriously caught fire in the early morning hours. Five years later, in 2007, Herdklotz Park opened and the community began enjoying access to this lovely rec facility that has wonderful views of the Greenville skyline and neighboring Paris Mountain. But, it didn't take long for strange things to begin occurring ...
By day, the playground is generally filled with the laughter of children and families.
Gathering here for a shady picnic in the spring or fall is a welcome activity that fosters reconnecting with nature and each other. Picnic tables are found throughout the park and a gazebo is a popular spot for larger families and groups of friends to gather. You may want to take this sand-free picnic mat along just in case the picnic tables are all occupied when you visit.
But as the afternoon wears on and the trees begin to throw more and more shade, things can reportedly get a little uncomfortable in this haunted park in South Carolina.
People have reported all sorts of otherworldly activity here that seems to begin just as the sun begins to set on Herdklotz Park. From unnerving sounds, like screams of pain to a simple bell ringing nearby (when there clearly is no one with a bell nearby), all sorts of creepy paranormal activity seem to make itself known on this playground. (The gazebo seems to be a hot spot for activity.)
As if the creepy sounds aren't enough to send chills up the spine of many visitors to the playground ... many people report seeing apparitions. Others see perfectly round orbs in flight.
If you're a non-believer of ghosts or any otherworldly beings, that may be put to the test at this haunted playground and site of an abandoned tuberculosis hospital in South Carolina. Can you believe part of the basement of the hospital is reportedly still intact exactly under the playground?!
