We're spoiled with absolutely beautiful views everywhere we go in our gorgeous state, but this scenic drive through Rhode Island might top them all. Short but sweet, the Rhode Island scenic drive is brimming with jaw-dropping views - from the crashing of the ocean waves to the opulent mansions of Newport. Even better, you don't need a whole lot of time to drive it.
Most of us have probably already driven along Ocean Drive, a short but sweet 10-mile jaunt that's brimming with natural and manmade beauty.
Even if you've driven this scenic Rhode Island path multiple times, you'll likely be compelled to explore it again and again. After all, you'll always discover something new.
You don't need a whole lot of time to follow this picturesque drive unless, of course, you plan on stopping along the way.
The entire 10 miles hugs the coastline, so you know you're in for some of Rhode Island's best views - no matter the time of the year.
Start your drive on Bellevue Avenue, where Ocean and Coggeshall Avenues intersect. If you're downtown, you can begin at the Thames Street and Wellington Avenue intersection.
You'll pass quite a few gems along the drive, including Brenton Point State Park and Fort Adams State Park. If you have time, you might want to stop to explore a bit.
The road meanders past Newport's enchanting mansions and Jackie Kennedy's childhood home, Hammersmith Farm.
During the summer, pack your beach gear for a visit to Gooseberry Beach.
Make it a point, at least once, to drive the historic Newport drive at least once during sunrise or sunset. Sunrise is best, as it tends to be much quieter.
However, if you're not a morning bird, just be prepared for more traffic during the sunset.
