A fresh snowfall transforms the landscape into a breathtaking winter wonderland. Rhode Island’s certainly no stranger to snow; however, some towns experience quite a bit more than others. The snowfall in Foster averages more than 50 inches a year. Foster is one of the snowiest towns in Rhode Island.
If you’re not a fan of snow, make your way to Block Island. It averages approximately 20 inches of snowfall a year.
Good thing, too, because it’s a beautiful day trip or weekend getaway destination any time of the year, especially if you love the outdoors. Winter in Rhode Island is perfect in Foster!
Start your winter adventure by driving to Jerimoth Hill in Foster, the highest point in Rhode Island. Look for the sign on the side of the road that alerts you that you’ve arrived.
However, you’re not there yet. To reach the spot that marks Rhode Island’s highest point, which is 811 feet, follow a short but sweet trail. It’s even prettier when sprinkled with snow.
Foster’s also home to the lone covered bridge in Rhode Island. Even if you’ve seen it before, it’s worth the effort to go when it’s coated in snow. Winter in Rhode Island never looked so good!
You can pull off of the side of the road to admire the covered bridge and take photos. However, make sure you do not block traffic or the driveway to the home that sits near the bridge.
A chilly day of exploring is just meant to be followed by a delicious, hot meal. Stop by Shady Acres for a hearty meal. It dishes up a variety of favorites – from meatloaf to burgers.
Carve out some time, too, to do a bit of shopping. Foster’s home to an eclectic selection of shops that sell everything from antiques to books.
