With holiday shopping and those pricey New England heating bills around the onset of winter, it's important to stick to a budget. Lucky for us Rhode Islanders, that doesn't mean we can't still enjoy ourselves. There are plenty of fun and free things around the state to enjoy without picking up your wallet. Here are 10 fantastic, no cost attractions.
1. Visit the state beaches after 5:00pm and catch the sunset.
Don't want to pay for parking, or deal with the crowds? Hanging at any one of the beaches after close is free and perfect for relaxing.
2. Attending Providence WaterFire and strolling along the river.
Providence WaterFire is one of the most popular attractions for a reason. It's a unique and lovely way to enjoy the lovely river.
3. Be a spectator at a Gaspee Days parade.
These fun and unique parades celebrate the burning of a British war ship during colonial times.
4. Catch an outdoor film at Movies on the Block in Providence.
Movies on the Block feature everything from the classics, to modern day films.
5. Explore Beavertail State Park and historic lighthouse museum.
The several acres making up Beavertail State park include everything from gorgeous cliffside trails, a historic museum, and even a small aquarium and all for free!
6. Ride along the East Bay Bike Path and take in the gorgeous scenery.
This bike path begins in Providence and includes diverse and gorgeous scenery.
7. Take in the view of the city from Neutaconkanut Hill.
Neutaconkanut Park in Providence also includes several acres of dense forested hiking trails.
8. Cruise down scenic Route 1A.
Enjoy amazing views of the Atlantic along this scenic offshoot of historic Route 1.
9. Check out the amazing exhibits in the RISD Museum on free admission days.
Admission at the RISD museum is free every Sunday from 10 am–5 pm and on the third Thursday evening of each month from 5–9 pm.
10. Stroll down Benefit Street on the East Side of Providence and gaze upon the historic architecture.
The historic Victorian and Colonial homes along Benefit street are an amazing sight to take in.
