Some people might think you have to spend money to gain access to the state's best attractions. Lucky for all of us, this couldn't be further from the truth. Here are 12 awesome things you can do in Little Rhody without needing to pay!
1. Beavertail State Park, Jamestown
Beavertail State Park abounds with beautiful scenic views, a historic lighthouse, and fields that are just perfect for a picnic. There is even a small aquarium that is also free to the public.
2. RISD Museum, Providence
The RISD Museum located on the historically rich East Side of Providence is a place that should not be missed. They offer free admission on Sundays from 10:00am to 5:00pm and every third Thursday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm.
3. Fort Wetherill, Jamestown
This abandoned coastal artillery is a magnificent place to explore. Not only can you wander around the fort for free, but it is in the middle of a wonderful park with cliffside walking paths along the ocean.
4. The Athenaeum, Providence
This historic member supported library is not only architecturally amazing inside and out, it also has an exciting history. As a former hangout to Edgar Allen Poe and many other Providence based creative types, there is no shortage of fascinating stories to discover here.
5. Goddard Park, Warwick
Few parks have as diverse a landscape as Goddard Park in Warwick. With charming beaches, amazing trails, and even dozens of picnic tables and grills, this place is just perfect to spend a day exploring with friends and family.
6. Wickford Village and Harbor, North Kingstown
Wickford Village might be the most charming of all historic New England fishing villages. With a delightful main street and a stunning harbor, window shopping and wandering about Wickford Village is a great experience.
7. Arcadia, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton, and West Greenwich
As the state's largest recreational space, Arcadia Management Area has dozens upon dozens of outstanding hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, and more!
8. Rhode Island PrideFest, Providence
Routinely ranked one of the best Pride Festivals in the country, Rhode Island PrideFest offers a day of free music, activities, and more. Be sure to stay until the sun sets to watch the illuminated night parade with hundreds of unique floats.

9. Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge, Charlestown
If you're looking for a free place to bird watch or take in beautiful nature sites, Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge is the perfect choice. Located in Charlestown and offering uplands and wetlands, the wildlife you'll find here is unlike anywhere else.
10. Waterfire, Providence
See the Providence River come ablaze at Waterfire! Enjoy eclectic music and more at this unique and free event.
11. PVD Fest, Providence
Did you know that Providence has a rich local music and arts scene? Whether you answered yes, or not, you won't want to miss PVD Fest this June. With dozens of performers throughout the city, many of the events are completely free to the public.
