Rhode Island may not have many towering mountains or sky-high waterfalls, but we've got a coastline no other state can compete with. And there's no better way to explore it than enjoying the iconic Cliff Walk. This seaside stroll is known as one of the most beautiful places in the U.S., but for us, it's just something fantastic that happens to be in our own backyard.
The Newport Cliff Walk is considered one of the top attractions in the city of Newport, which is really saying something.
This entire 3.5-mile public access walkway borders the shoreline.
The Cliff Walk was the first designated National Recreation Trail in New England.
The path starts at the east end of Bailey's Beach and leads to the western end of First Beach.
Between the panoramic ocean views, the crashing waves, and the soft sea breezes, you'll be in heaven.
Conde Nast Traveler listed the trail as the most beautiful place in Rhode Island, and it's easy to see why.
Part of the fun of the Cliff Walk is the diverse scenery.
While the magnificent ocean views are the main attraction, they're only half of the appeal.
The Newport Mansions also border the Cliff Walk, so you can see the remnants of Newport's gilded age.
The combination of regal architecture and the beauty of the shoreline is incomparable.
Should you walk the Cliff Walk, note that the last third of the trail can be quite rough.
In some spots, the cliffs have sudden drops that are not always easily seen. It's best to avoid bringing young children on this part of the trail, if you proceed.
Whether you're new to Rhode Island or you've lived here your entire life, The Newport Cliff Walk is a must-see.
You won't wind a more beautiful path in Rhode Island.
