Christmas has become so commercialized these days – it seems everything is about cheesy songs played on repeat and overpriced, low-quality toys. But it doesn't have to be that way! Take back the spirit of the season with a visit to a beautifully decorated Victorian mansion, where you'll remember the real beauty and coziness of Christmas.
The unique Hearthside House, with its stone construction and curved gable roof, was a private residence for over 200 years until it was purchased by the town of Lincoln in 1996. It's now managed by a nonprofit organization called "Friends of Hearthside," which organizes all of the house's amazing holiday celebrations.
During the month of December, Hearthside House hosts a number of Christmas events that show off its absolutely splendid decor.
The season kicks off with some great family events – an American Girl Doll Christmas Celebration on December 2, and a Christmas Family Celebration (complete with family portraits!) on December 3.
The following weekend, enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas celebration, with self-guided tours of the house, Christmas music on a harp, and visits from Santa.
There are plenty of seasonal snacks and fun touches all through the house.
Every detail is perfect, right down to the dollhouses.
And you never know when carolers in period clothing will burst into song! If the lead-up to Christmas is just too crazy for you, stretch out the season with special additional visits December 28 and 30th.
