Rhode Islanders, rejoice. After a brief mandated closure this year, the Biomes Marine Biology Center has opened its doors to the public again. And since extra precautions are being taken to ensure everyone's health and safety, there's never been a better time to round up the family and go.
The Biomes Marine Biology Center is located on Post Road in North Kingstown, where it has remained since its 1989 opening.
This beloved local treasure has become a family tradition for many Rhode Islanders.
The Biomes is actually New England’s only private marine education facility, and it also happens to be the largest aquarium in Rhode Island.
If you've ever wanted an up-close-and-personal look at marine life, this is the place for you.
So, what will you find here? Plenty of marine life, most of it native to Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
The mission of this place is to provide hands-on examples of marine life.
The animals vary greatly, ranging from tiny fish to large turtles.
Everyone who finds a home at the Biomes is very well cared for.
The Biomes has been a popular destination for field trips, after school programs, and public tours.
Birthday parties for children (and kids at heart) are also popular -- and sometimes the team even hosts private events onsite.
Social distancing isn't always easy, but the team at the Biomes is doing their best to keep everyone safe and healthy.
While all the summer camps and large events are canceled for the foreseeable future, you're welcome to take a private tour.
Do you miss these cute little sea creatures?
Don't worry, they miss you too. And visiting them is a perfect summer staycation activity.
