1. The Dormont Library

Start your ghostly journey at the Dormont Library where you might just run into the friendliest ghost on this list. Mary, the former librarian, may have passed away but she certainly couldn't stay away from her beloved library and neither could the husband she left behind. He often visited the library to be closer to her while Mary had a little fun, turning the lights on and off and sending books flying from the shelves. The paranormal activity has calmed since Mary's husband's death but perhaps you may just run into her spirit at the Dormont Library.

2. Carnegie Library of Homestead

Stop by the Carnegie Library of Homestead to check out some ghostly books but also to, if you're lucky, catch a glimpse of a ghost or, at the very least, some ghostly activity. Said to be haunted since a steelworker died in the library's swimming pool in the late 1800s, the library and its patrons have experienced numerous paranormal activities over the decades, including the sound of girls giggling emanating from the empty basement, loud voices talking when no one is there, and books spontaneously falling off of the shelves.

3. Connellsville Carnegie Library

End your library visits at the Connellsville Carnegie Library, a more than century-old building that was built over a former cemetery. Before building began, the town moved the bodies to another cemetery. However, rumors persist to this day that bodies remain buried under the library and the paranormal activity seems to prove those rumors true. Individuals claim to have seen the apparition of a man and a woman, have heard footsteps from above when no one is there, and, as with the other libraries, have seen books suddenly fly off of the shelves.

4. Damien's Grave at Resurrection Cemetery

Beware as you head to Damien's Grave at Resurrection Cemetery in Moon Township. You may not see a full apparition but visitors to the grave site claim to have seen red eyes glowing from above the tombstone. Remain respectful when you visit the grave site – do not pick the flowers or in any way defile the grave – or expect bad luck to follow you for the rest of your days.

5. Corvette Tunnel in South Park

Visit Piney Fork Road in South Park, if you dare. Several tragedies have occurred on or near that road, including the death of a young girl who crashed while racing her Corvette. Listen carefully if you drive down the road after the sun has set because visitors tell of hearing the screeching of tires and loud screams. But, that's not all to look out for on Piney Fork Road, which runs along a creek. A man is said to have murdered his wife in that creek and, if you dare to walk into the nearby tunnel, you may just feel tugging at your leg and hear a female voice pleading for you to help her.

6. St. Nicholas Church in Millvale

Stay away from St. Nicholas Church in Millvale late at night for that is when an agitated apparition arrives. The man first made his appearance in the late 1930s when an artist spent countless hours painting murals on the church wall. If the artist remained in the church as the time neared midnight, he would feel a cold rush of air fall over him before catching site of an agitated man pacing and muttering to himself. Some claim the apparition is that of a former priest who returns to the church to repent for his sins.

7. Heinz History Center

Head directly to the fifth floor of the Heinz History Center for your best chance of encountering a ghost. Once the site of the Chautauqua Lake Ice Company, the business burned to the ground at the tail end of the 1800s and was eventually rebuilt for the Heinz History Center. Go to the fifth floor, where you'll find exhibits of the French and Indian War, and you just might see apparitions or hear strange sounds when no one else is around.

8. Blue Mist Road

Enjoy a leisurely stroll along Blue Mist Road in North Park during the day but, unless you want to encounter the paranormal, avoid the area at night. As the sun sets on this five-mile stretch of road closed to motor vehicles, a blue mist settles over the area. Local lure tells of visitors being chased from the road by apparitions, including those of a mother and her children who were murdered by their husband and father and buried in a nearby septic tank.

9. Chatham University's Woodland Hall

Join a ghost tour at Chatham University, which claims to be one of the most haunted spots in the Pittsburgh area. Long before the grounds housed the Pittsburgh university, a mental health institution sat on the spot and, according to local legend, a former patient - now known as the Blue Lady of Woodlawn Hall - remains on the campus grounds, often staring at students when they wake up in the morning as her blue dress glows.

10. Coulterville Cemetery

End your ghostly journey at Coulterville Cemetery, now the final resting place of countless souls but formerly the spot of an orphanage and a church. The church and orphanage, and the children within, met a tragic end when the building burned to the ground in the 1800s. Today, families visit their loved ones at the cemetery and many have told tales of seeing children playing or hearing children's voices but no one was there. Others tell of driving away from the cemetery, only to see a burning building in their rear view mirrors while hand prints of young children appear on their windows.
