Hidden gems sometimes hide right in front of us. We could, for example, pass the same restaurant every day and not even realize that beyond the storefront is a hidden gem worthy of stopping. Other hidden gems, however, might take a bit more effort to find. Don’s Diner, truly a hidden gem in Pittsburgh, falls into the latter category. If you’ve not yet been there, you might need to enable your trusty GPS to guide you, but the effort will certainly be worth it.
Tucked under a bridge on the North Side, Don’s Diner promises an old-school diner experience, complete with a menu of delicious dishes and a counter, where you can grab a seat at one of the stools.
You might want to set your GPS, so you have an easier time finding this classic diner that sits by itself on an unassuming Pittsburgh street.
Grab a seat at the counter, or slip into one of the booths at this tiny diner that’s been a popular neighborhood spot for more than two decades.
If you’re a film buff, you might recognize the unassuming eatery from one of three Hollywood flicks. Warrior, The Next Three Days, and 12/24 all had scenes shot at Don’s Diner.
With photos of the Pittsburgh of yesteryear adorning the walls, the tiny diner’s menu is small but mighty. If you’re visiting for breakfast, order such classics as homemade omelets, pancakes, and French toast.
Scoop up a delicious bowl of grits, homemade sausage, or the Hungry Joe, which features such favorite dishes as eggs, a pancake, bacon, and homefries.
While Don’s Diner may serve one of the best breakfasts in Pittsburgh, you can also order a hearty, scrumptious lunch, too. Popular lunch dishes include homemade soup, burgers, and grilled cheese.
Sit down to a hearty meal at Don’s Diner, open Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring cash, too, as the eatery only accepts cash payment.
