October's blowing by like a terrifying howl of the wind in the middle of the night. Before we know it, we'll be opening the door to eager trick or treaters. The good news, however, is you still have plenty of time to get into the Halloween spirit. Here are eight terrifying things you can do in Pittsburgh this October.
1. Stroll along a haunted trail.
Enter the dark woods as you embark on Scary Harry's Haunted Trail. No flashlights. No smartphones. Just you and other daredevils. Get ready for ghosts and goblins around every corner along the haunted trail and in the three haunted buildings. The creepy, popular Halloween attraction is recommended for those 13 and older. 3. Dine at a haunted restaurant.
Sit down for a delectable meal at one of the area's most haunted restaurants. While Jean Bonnet Tavern doesn't deserve the title creepy, it is the perfect spot to perhaps experience the paranormal. Like the gent who might watch you from the Tavern doorway until you notice and he disappears. Learn more here.
4. Embark on a haunted hike.
Lace up your comfiest shoes for the trek along Beulah Road in Altoona. The road will take you up Wopsononock Mountain. Don't be surprised if you're stopped by a desperate bride, searching for her groom. She and her beloved, after all, died along this mountain road on their wedding day. Her body was found. His wasn't. To this day, she still searches for her beloved, stopping to ask passers-by if they've seen him. Read more.
5. Drive down one of the area’s most haunted streets.
Prefer a leisurely drive after the sun goes down rather than a hike? Irwin Road - frequently called Blue Mist Road - in North Park will certainly give you chills. Just turn off your car. Honk the horn three times. And, wait. Legends tells that numerous spirits - including those of a family butchered by the father/husband - roam Blue Mist Road at night.
6. Visit America’s most terrifying haunted house.
Test your nerves - are they made of steel? - with a visit to ScareHouse, America's scariest haunted house. Enter this 3-D circus (yep, there will be clowns). a hotel housing the world's most demented serial killers, and restless demons.
7. Road trip to a town brimming with paranormal activity.
Pack up the car for a creepy road trip to Altoona, a charming town that's dripping with paranormal activity. Stop by the Mishler Theatre, where the one-time owner Mr. Mishler's spirit remains. 8. Watch a production at this haunted theater.
Book tickets for a play at the Pittsburgh Playhouse of Point Park University. You're sure to be thoroughly entertained by the actors on stage and the, well, spirits that hang around. Keep an eye out for the apparition of a bride on the balcony.
