Because of the long life of the city, there are many cemeteries in Philly that are the final resting place of Revolutionary War heroes, founding fathers, and early other Philadelphians. 1. Palmer Burial Ground

2. Laurel Hill Cemetery

Laurel Hill is one of the most haunted places in Philadelphia, and only the bravest will explore this cemetery after dark. There are creepy paranormal investigations held here every fall, if you dare to reach out to the spirits that haunt this historic graveyard. 3. Woodlands Cemetery

The Woodlands is a National Historic Landmark District that includes a mansion that once belonged to Andrew Hamilton, the famous Philadelphia lawyer. 4. Mount Moriah Cemetery

Betsy Ross was originally laid to rest here, but in recent years the cemetery has fallen into disrepair. The Friends of Mount Moriah have been working to restore this historic graveyard, but there's a feeling of gloom as you look out across the graves. The group hosts events all year round. 5. Christ Church Burial Ground

The grave of Benjamin Franklin is just one of many notable interments at this historic Philadelphia cemetery. If you only have time to check out just one Philadelphia graveyard, make it this one. It's among the oldest in the city, and you'll be impressed by the names that you read on these weathered gravestones. 340 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19106

6. Old Pine Cemetery

The Old Pine Street Church, built in 1764, is one of the oldest churches in Philadelphia. During the American Revolution, British soldiers took over the church and shot at the gravestones for target practice - you can still see the bullet marks on some graves. Buried at the site are over 200 Revolutionary War heroes and one single Tory - which the Church now laughs off as a mistake. 7. Old Swedes (Gloria Dei) Church
