1. Pine Creek Gorge, Watson Township
Pine Creek Gorge has earned the nickname of the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania and for good reason. The stunning gorge spans nearly 50 miles and dips as far down as 1,450 feet at its deepest point. Get a spectacular view of Pine Creek Gorge by biking along the super easy Pine Creek Rail Trail. For other amazing views of the gorge, visit the observation outlooks at both Colton Point State Park and Leonard Harrison State Park.
2. Ganoga Falls, Benton
For a truly memorable experience, add Ricketts Glen State Park to your bucket list of places to visit in Pennsylvania. The state park boasts a stunning 22 waterfalls with Ganoga Falls being the largest and perhaps the most magical at 94 feet high. Hike to the Ganoga Falls via Falls Trail or the Old Beaver Dam Road Trail. But, be prepared for a challenge as the terrain on both trails falls proves difficult.
3. Gettysburg Battlefield, Gettysburg
Pennsylvania lays claim to a rich history that helped shape both our state and the United States. Drink in stunning scenery and a powerful history lesson with a visit to Gettysburg Battlefield, where you can join a group bus tour or listen to a CD on your own self-guided tour. Your best bet, however, is to start at the Gettysburg Visitor's Center to learn about Gettysburg's history, to purchase tickets for tours, if applicable, and to map out your time at the battlefield.
4. Mount Washington, Pittsburgh
Channel your inner artist by grabbing your camera and climbing aboard the Duquesne Incline or the Monongahela Incline where you'll slowly ascend the side of Mount Washington. As you inch ever closer to the top, watch as a sensational scene unfurls before you. Once at the top, visit the Mount Washington Overlook for a second to none panoramic view of Pittsburgh.
5. One Liberty Observation Deck, Philadelphia
See Philadelphia – and beyond – like never before when you visit One Liberty Observation Deck. Soar to the 57th floor of the One Liberty Skyscraper where you'll be treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of Philadelphia. The observation deck welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 365 days a year, promising a magnificent view regardless the time of the day.
6. Flight 93 National Memorial, Shanksville
Pay homage to the brave men and women aboard United Airlines Flight 93 who, on September 11, stopped terrorists from maneuvering the hijacked plane to Washington DC. The Flight 93 National Memorial honors the crew and passengers, offering a solemn yet peaceful place for reflection. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the Visitor Center to learn more about that historic day.
7. Cherry Springs State Park, Coudersport
Sure, you can technically go outside and get an amazing view of the nighttime sky pretty much anywhere. But, there's something special about star gazing at Cherry Springs State Park. Head to the Night Sky Viewing Area for a clear view, without the interference of city lights, of the nighttime sky. Visitors are encouraged to avoid using white light (or, if a light is necessary, use a red bulb) to ensure an unaltered view of the spectacular show in the nighttime sky.
8. Hyner Lookout Point, Hyner
Discover unparallelled beauty at Hyner View State Park where adventure awaits, depending on much adventure you seek, at every corner. Go hang gliding. Pack a picnic lunch. Hike. Bike. Whatever you do, make a point to stop at
Hyner Point Lookout for a stunning view of the Susquehanna River, the nearby mountains, and miles beyond.
9. Presque Isle State Park, Erie
Presque Isle State Park promises something for everyone. A gorgeous beach on which to lie and to watch the waves. Kayaking and canoeing. Hiking the trails. Watching the native species of birds. Expect the unexpected when you visit Presque Isle State Park – and don't forget your camera!
10. Kinzua Bridge, Mt. Jewett
Tucked in the Allegheny National Forest sits a gem: The Kinzua Bridge. Once a majestic bridge that faced partial destruction in the early 2000s, the Kinzua Bridge has been transformed into a magnificent sky walk that welcomes visitors to look down through a glass floor at the remains of the bridge and the scenery below.
