Brewing companies are deeply ingrained into the history of Philadelphia - in fact, there's an entire section of the city called Brewerytown! There are dozens of craft breweries throughout the city, but these five Philadelphia breweries stand out above the rest, and you should plan a trip to their tasting rooms and tour their production centers for a great weekend activity.

1. Yards

Yards is an iconic Philadelphia brewery right on the river that frequently hosts fun events all year long. They offer free brewery tours from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. on weekends and they fill up fast! Arrive close to noon for your best chance to see the brewery in action, and be sure to hang out in the tasting room to sample their delicious brews.

2. Philadelphia Brewing Company

Whether you tour Philadelphia Brewing Company on Saturday, stop by the tasting room, or enjoy the Peacock Bar, you'll enjoy learning about the historic PBC and what makes it such a unique Philadelphia legend. Their delicious Philly-themed beers include Kenzinger, Pennsylvania Pale Ale, Walt Wit, Newbold IPA, and PHL Session IPA.

The Peacock Room is open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m., Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. The Tasting Room is open on Saturdays from 12 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. and on the First Friday of every month from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tours and tastings are only available on Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

3. Crime & Punishment Brewing Co.

Crime & Punishment might be Philadelphia's most unique brewery! This Russian-themed brewery blends the traditional Philadelphia brewery with a modern craft brewing company, and the result is a fun place for everyone to snack, sip, and socialize. Hours are Monday through Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 12 a.m., Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. - 1 a.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 12 a.m. Their brewpub kitchen is open until 10 p.m. every night.

4. Dock Street Brewing Co.

Dock Street Brewing Company is a great hidden gem in West Philly, where delicious brick-oven pizza pairs perfectly with inventive craft brews. Enjoy their outdoor seating or hang out in the building, which is an old restored firehouse. They're open Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. - 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. - 1 a.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

5. Saint Benjamin Brewing Co.

Saint Benjamin Brewing Company is named after Philadelphia's own Benjamin Franklin, who was rumored to enjoy beer a little more than the average founding father. You can tour Saint Benjamin on Saturdays from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. for free, and you'll get to taste one of their freshest brews, too. The kitchen and brewpub are open Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m. - 2 a.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m - 2 a.m.. They're closed on Mondays. Address: 1710 N 5th St., Philadelphia.
