Pittsburgh's got plenty of haunted tales to tell. 1. Mount Washington Tavern – 3414 National Pike, Farmington, PA 15437

Mount Washington Tavern, a tavern built in the 1830s, now serves as a museum. Visitors to the museum tell eerie tales of hearing heavy footsteps from above when no one is there, of smelling traditional tavern food wafting in the air, and of the lingering scent of recently discharged gun powder. Several visitors, in fact, have told of seeing the apparition of a baby in a cradle in one room.

2. Connellsville Carnegie Free Library– 299 South Pittsburgh Street, Connellsville, PA 15425

Don't be alarmed if books spontaneously fly off of the shelves at the Connellsville Carnegie Free Library, a majestic century old building that just happens to sit over a cemetery. Local legend says that even though the bodies in the cemetery were relocated prior to the library's construction, people believe they remained buried under the library. You just might hear footsteps from above when no one is there and see the apparitions of a man and a woman.

3. Allegheny General Hospital – 320 East North Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Allegheny General Hospital has seen plenty of death during its history. If you believe local lure, the spirits of some of those who passed away at the hospital remain, alerting patients, visitors, and others to their presence in simple ways. Many tell of hearing voices when no one is there and of hearing strange noises, including footsteps when the halls are empty.

4. Carnegie Library of Homestead – 510 East 10th Avenue, Munhall, PA 15120

Tragedy struck the Carnegie Library of Homestead way back in the 1800s when a steelworker drowned in the library's swimming pool. Since that time, the library is said to have been the sight of numerous and continued paranormal events, including books flying off of the shelves, the sound of talking voices when no one else is around, and girls laughing from an empty basement.

5. The University of Pittsburgh – 4200 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Paranormal tales are just a part of the curriculum at the University of Pittsburgh where several spots are said to be inhabited by ghostly spirits. A spirit, for example, is said to roam the Early American Nationality Room. The apparition frequently unmakes the bed and gently rocks a small cradle.

6. Point Park University – 201 Wood Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

The Shuffler of Lawrence Hall has roamed the dorms at Point Park University for decades. Those who have lived in the the dorms of Lawrence Hall tell of objects spontaneously moving, fans turning on and off on their own, knocking on doors in the middle of the night, and hearing objects falling over in the bathroom of individual dorm rooms.

7. Omni William Penn Hotel – 530 William Penn Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Two of the top floors of the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh remain closed to the public. Some say the 22nd and 23rd floors are off limits to guests because they are haunted. Strange noises emanate from the floors at all hours of the day and night. Those who have been to those floors tell of feeling as though they're being watched and feeling a sudden rush of cold air.
