Driving through haunted towns during the day might give us a few goosebumps, but the daylight really keeps it from getting too creepy. However, once the sun goes down, that all changes. Even the slightest out-of-place sound can make us jump. Bring a healthy dose of courage with you if you drive through this haunted town in Pennsylvania at night.
Gettysburg has earned a reputation as being the most haunted town in Pennsylvania and perhaps even in the United States. However, Altoona offers some pretty frightening tales of the paranormal, too.
One of those tales might make you think twice about driving through town at night once everything has closed and everyone has gone to bed.
If you do, be aware that you might have to journey through the Horseshoe Curve Tunnel, which is said to be haunted by the spirit of a despondent Irishwoman. Her spirit, it’s said, has been in the tunnel since the late 1880s.
She wanders through the tunnel, sometimes sitting outside near a large tree, awaiting the return of her one true love. One local legend tells of her tragic murder while another claims that it was her beloved who was killed, so she waits for him in the tunnel.
Whichever version you believe, just keep an eye out when you’re driving through the tunnel, especially at night. Don’t be too shocked if you smell a strong sulfur odor before the Irishwoman, none too happy to see you, appears.
Some who have driven through have stopped midway (only when it was safe to do so) and left a bottle of water on the hood – only for it to be violently thrown to the ground by a spirit.
If you happen to drive up Wopsononock Mountain, on the other hand, you might run into the spirit of a heartbroken newlywed who, along with her groom, died in a terrifying buggy accident many years ago.

She’s often said to roam the mountain at night with a lantern, desperately searching for her husband. (Her body was found; his was not.) She might even try to hitch a ride with you.
