You don't need to spend a week in Philly to see the best of the city! You can easily enjoy just one day here and find something so fascinating that you'll remember it forever. Here are just a few adventures you can have in a short stopover in the City of Brotherly Love.
1. Go to a game!
Whether it's baseball, football, hockey, or basketball season, grab a ticket to see one of Philly's teams play. Head to Xfinity Live! after the game for a round of drinks and some entertaining chatter.
2. Spend the day taste-testing cheesesteaks.
There are so many must-try Cheesesteak spots in Philly, so it can be tough to choose which ones to hit first. Luckily, we have you covered! Check out our previous article: These 10 Restaurants Serve The Best Cheesesteaks In Philadelphia.
3. Visit the Franklin Institute.
This stunning museum is so much fun for both adults and kids. Enjoy hundreds of experiments, dozens of hands-on exhibits, and run through the giant heart.
4. Try your hand at urban geocaching.
If you've ever wanted to live life like a pirate, now's your chance... sort of. Geocaching is like treasure hunting, and there are fascinating caches all over the city. Tracking one down will show off the history and culture of the great city of Philadelphia. To get started, click here.
5. Stroll Elfreth's Alley.
The oldest street in America is gorgeous and quaint, and a walk down the block will feel like a step back in time.
6. Visit Independence National Historical Park.
Independence National Historical Park shows off the best of Philly's history. All of the tours are free! Learn more about this awesome spot here.
7. Take in the city from up high.
In my opinion, the best observation deck in Philadelphia is at the top of City Hall... though the elevator ride to the clock tower level is a little frightening. Check it out, then head to the top of One Liberty Place for another jaw-dropping view of the city.
8. Explore Japanese culture in our biggest park.
Fairmount Park's Shofuso House is one of the most unique places in the city. If you're going to spend a day in Philadelphia, there's no better spot to enjoy a relaxing walk around the koi pond and a look inside this historic, authentic Japanese house.
9. Hike miles and miles without leaving the city.
Wissahickon is full of trails that you can explore all day long. The views alone are worth spending hours here.
10. See the Magic Gardens.
No day in Philadelphia is complete without a trip to the Magic Gardens. This South Street art exhibit is breathtaking... and a little dizzying. Check it out, then walk to the nearby "Tattooed Mom" for a drink and a snack at an iconic spot.
11. Step back in time at City Tavern.
City Tavern is the one place on Earth where you can dine with Ben Franklin. The menu here is crafted with recipes from the days of the founding fathers - it doesn't get more colonial than that! Psst: it's also Philadelphia's most haunted restaurant.
