When Giuseppe and Gaetano Termini arrived in America in 1920, they had their hearts set on opening a bakery in their new hometown of Philadelphia. By 1921, the brothers had saved up enough money to open up their shop, and within a few years, they became the city's most popular wedding cake bakery!
By 1938, they were able to move to a larger building, and expanded their business greatly. This 8th Street location is still their bakery today, nearly 80 years after opening the doors to their new location. By the 1940s, the legend of the Termini bakery was growing, as demand for their fruit cakes to be sent overseas to soldiers was insatiable. All the while, this family run business kept expanding, opening up new locations in Philadelphia to keep up with the city's needs. By 1985, they had a location on 24th & Oregon Ave, as well as in the legendary Reading Terminal Market. What's their secret to success and fame in a city that's full of incredible bakeries? Well, hard work and good business ethics for sure, but the fact that they make the best cannoli in Philadelphia has been a driving force to their fame for nearly 100 years.
The original Termini Bros Bakery is located at 1523 South 8th Street, Philadelphia, PA.
There are also bakery locations at: 1538 Packer Avenue, Reading Terminal Market (12th & Filbert), and in the Comcast Center at 1701 JFK Blvd.
Each location serves up freshly baked cakes, cookies, desserts, and Italian specialties.
You'll never have a better Sfogliatelle than one fresh out of the oven at Termini Bros. They also make special occasion cakes and are well known as wedding cake experts.
But the real magic of Termini Bros comes when you try one of their legendary cannoli!
You can try them stuffed with three different fillings.
The best cannoli in Philadelphia starts with a fresh baked, flaky and crispy shell.
With no preservatives and the highest quality ingredients, it might be the perfect that makes these stand out above the rest! Termini Cannolis are so famous that they ship them throughout the country regularly.
Choose your filling wisely - or try them all.
Chocolate Chip Ricotta and Vanilla Italian Cream are particularly popular.
Though I love the vanilla cream, the chocolate chip ricotta with citron just can't be beat.
Dust it with some powdered sugar and you won't find a better dessert in the city.
The chocolate Italian cream is popular, too
As a chocolate lover, I'm always happy to have the option of a fresh cannoli with chocolate filling.
No matter what filling you try, this legendary bakery will prove to you that the best cannoli in Philadelphia can be found in a bakery that's nearly 100 years old.
They've been doing it right since 1921, and there's no end to the Termini legend in sight! Next time you're in South Philly or Reading Terminal Market, stop by to see for yourself how this charming bakery makes the best cannoli you'll ever try.
