Coastal Brookings, Oregon, is a town of just 6,837 residents, but it's home to one of the biggest and best holiday lights displays in the state. This affordable, 45-minute, walk-through winter adventure is located in the 33-acre Azalea Park each year and is created by a dedicated group of hard-working volunteers. Azalea Park is a beautiful park at any time of year; its home to ancient native azaleas that were already growing here when Lewis and Clark arrived. Today, people visit Azalea Park to enjoy the formal gardens, playing fields, picnic areas, playground, and trails, but at no time is it more alive than during Nature's Coastal Holiday Festival of Lights. Read on to learn more about this bright event and get ready to walk through a winter wonderland of lights in Oregon this holiday season.
Nature's Coastal Holiday Festival of Lights is amazing. More than 3 million lights illuminate the park during this event.
This event has been happening since 1997. The organizers started with just 22,000 lights and it has grown exponentially from there.
Today, more than 25,000 people attend this event each year.
Once you enter the park, you'll be able to walk through the attraction at your own pace. It takes most people about 45 minutes to see it all.
Since Brookings is on the coast, it's fitting that the lights display is ocean themed. You might see a whale in lights.
Check out this giant octopus!
Even some of those grumpy sharks are getting into the holiday spirit.
You never know who might pass by on a speedboat.
One of the most beautiful parts of the display is in the park's formal gardens. Don't miss it.
At the end of your journey, you can warm up with some hot cocoa, hot cider, and cookies at the Snack Shack.
You'll love this incredible lights display in Brookings. Once you visit once, you'll want to make it a tradition that you repeat year after year. Viewing holiday lights is a great way to get into the spirit of the season. Have so much fun in Azalea Park!
