Do you have dinosaur lovers in your family? If so, it's time to take a little road trip. We've got a fantastic prehistoric garden display right here in Southern Oregon, complete with scientifically correct restorations of all your favorite dinos. This quirky attraction is a bit bizarre, but it's also fantastic.
Prehistoric Gardens is located in Port Orford, a tiny town on Oregon’s Highway 101 Coastal Route.
Whether you're just passing by on a road trip or you make the park your final destination for the day, you're sure to have a great time.
Prehistoric Gardens was founded by a sculptor, artist, and all-out dinosaur fan named E.V. “Ernie” Nelson.
Ernie was working as a CPA when he decided to move from Eugene with his family and find a spot in Southern Oregon to build his dream dinosaur park.
Naturally, he settled on this prehistoric rainforest on the Southern Oregon Coast. And the setting remains perfect.
It took three years of construction, one trip to the Smithsonian in New York, and tons of research, but he was able to open the park on New Year's Day in 1955.
Sixty-five years later, Prehistoric Gardens remains a favorite offbeat attractions for people all over the Pacific Northwest.
Not only is it full of life-sized and very accurate figures, but it's chock full of information and tidbits on dinosaurs and how they lived.

The park has a total of 23 dinosaurs, each built by Ernie himself.
Ernie ran the park until he passed away at the age of 91, and his granddaughters operate it to this day.
In addition to seeing all these fantastic prehistoric creatures, you'll love exploring a true temperate rainforest.
The Rainforest at the Prehistoric Gardens is rich in biodiversity with an ecosystem of hanging moss, old-growth trees, and ferns that grow to massive sizes. The rainforest gets up to 10 FEET of rain each year, allowing the vegetation to grow and thrive.
Prehistorc Gardens is open daily from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. (winter hours vary).
Admission is just $12 ($8 for children) and allows you unlimited access to the beautiful rainforest and its dinosaurs.
