Did you know that there was once a magical amusement park on the Oregon Coast? Pixieland opened on June 28, 1969 and was a top destination for family fun on the coast. This whimsical park had everything: thrilling log flume rides, a penny arcade, train rides, an enchanted forest and even an opera house with daily live performances.
Sadly, Pixieland ended up closing its doors in 1973. Wet weather on the Oregon Coast along with other factors made it difficult to keep the park running. While Pixieland was only open for four years, it lives on as a treasured childhood memory for many Oregonians. Take a look:
The story of Pixieland begins with one of Oregon's most iconic restaurants, Pixie Kitchen. In the 1960s, this popular restaurant was one of the top tourist attractions on the Oregon Coast.
The restaurant was so popular that the owners decided to open a theme park inspired by Pixie Kitchen. Located in Otis Junction, just three miles north of Lincoln City, Pixieland was officially dedicated by Governor Tom McCall to the families of Oregon in June of 1969.
This whimsical park was filled to the brim with quirky attractions. The popular log flume was always a highlight of a trip to Pixieland.
Visitors could also take a ride on an 1890s train, named "Little Toot."This rare footage from YouTube user Mike Leon will have you longing for the good old days at Pixieland.
