Do you know someone who loves trains? If so, a ride on this Christmas Train will absolutely delight them. Check out this annual fundraiser for the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation:
The folks at the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation are getting the steam engine ready for the holidays in anticipation of the Holiday Train rides this season.
Though the ride is a fundraiser for the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, the train doesn't board there. Instead, you'll hop aboard at Oaks Park, which is located at 7805 SE Oaks Park Way, Portland, OR 97202.
Arrive at least 20 minutes before your boarding time and head to the Big Event Tent to check in. While you wait, you'll enjoy some tasty holiday cookies and hot chocolate, cider, coffee, or tea.
The train leaves right on time, so climb into a restored vintage rail car and settled in. The cars are heated and well lit, so you'll be comfy and cozy as you watch the countryside pass by outside. The inside of every car is decorated for the holidays with twinkle lights and garland to make you feel festive.
Santa Claus will be on board to say hello and to greet each child and give him or her a Christmas treat. Volunteers are also on hand to tell you all about this vintage train and its steam engines.
The magical ride takes about 40 minutes and follows a scenic route along the Willamette River. Trains depart on the hour, with the first ride leaving at 10 a.m. and the last ride boarding at 8 p.m. Choose a morning ride to see the scenery or an evening ride to enjoy the glow of the train all decked out in Christmas lights.
Times vary depending on the date, and the train always takes a one-hour break from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m..
For the 2018 season, train rides are offered on November 23rd and 24, December 1st and 2nd, 8th and 9th, and 15th and 16th. These train rides sell out every year, so get your tickets as soon as possible!
Ticket prices vary based on the day and time of your ride. You can find the full schedule with pricing details here.
