There are plenty of quirky places to visit in Oklahoma that are loads of fun. One of these eccentric places is Shattuck Windmill Park & Museum - where a large collection of windmills dating back to the 19th-century stand. Shattuck Windmill Park & Museum is located on 4-acres at the junction of Highways 283 and 15 in the town of Shattuck.
They are open 7 days a week from sunup to sundown and when volunteers are present Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (May - November), you can visit the Visitor's Center.
You'll find over 50 vintage windmills all closely standing next to each other in this quirky park. Windmills once littered northwestern Oklahoma when they were used to pull water out of the ground, but now the largest collection of them are found here in Shattuck.
You'll find them blowing on the prairie in this park that is completely run by volunteers. When you visit, make sure to check out the one named OK!
They date back to the 1850s and range in height from 18 feet to 5 feet tall. No two windmills are alike in the park and some are made from wood, while others are constructed from steel.
Not only will you find these historic windmills at the park, but they have a recreated George Schultz General Mercantile Store that showcases a general store from 1904.
