There are some pretty spooky tales in our state, and Boggy Creek Bridge, a crybaby bridge in Catoosa, Oklahoma, is no exception. This old bridge, which holds the tale of a young mother and lost baby, is no longer in use. Today, it's considered to be one of the state's most haunted bridges. As mentioned above, Oklahoma has many “crybaby bridges,” which are bridges that are reported to be haunted by mothers or babies.
Many visitors of these haunted bridges report babies crying, in addition to spotting the apparitions of mothers. Interestingly, there are actually crybaby bridges reported all over the country.
This particular bridge is located at the end of a road in disrepair and disuse.
Not many people visit this area anymore, which you can definitely tell. The paved road is breaking off and falling into the river below. If you happen to visit it, be sure to watch your step.
This local legend tells the tale of a young mother who is racing across the bridge during a storm.
It’s in June, on Friday the 13th. The year is 1924, and the mother is driving in a horse and buggy.
Lightening struck near the mother and baby and frightened the horses, which tossed the passengers out of the carriage.
The mother got out of the carriage and searched the bridge in the pouring rain. She could hear her baby crying, but couldn’t find her child.
While searching, she heard her baby’s cries from over the side of the bridge.
She leaned over the side of the bridge, lost her footing, and fell into the waters below. Neither she nor her baby were ever seen again. Legend states that if you visit this bridge on Friday the 13th, you can hear her baby crying.
This bridge has been abandoned for so long that the forest is beginning to reclaim it.
You’ll find many instances of the trees growing around the rusty metal. As it is no longer in use, upkeep, and maintenance have stopped. It adds to the unsettling aura around the area.
Whether or not you believe in ghost stories, this bridge can certainly give off spooky vibes.
