It's always fun to branch out and try new food, music, customs and activities, and one of the best ways to experience something new is at festivals. Oklahoma has several ethnic festivals throughout the year that celebrate different countries, and we found nine that will wow you in the best way possible. Check them out (and make sure to try all the delicious food).
1. Fiestas del las Americas - Oklahoma City
Every year in September, Historic Capitol Hill holds the Fiestas de las Americas multicultural festival. Celebrate Hispanic Heritage with singing, dancing, eating, playing games and shopping. You'll love all the colorful costumes! (2017 date: September 30th)
2. India Fest - Tulsa
India Fest will be taking place August 19, 2017 at the Tulsa Expo Square and will be filled with fun and Indian culture. Taste many different foods from around India, watch dancing, listen to music and see cultural art. Pick-up some beautiful, Indian jewelry or get a henna tattoo at this incredible festival.
3. International Festival - Lawton
The International Festival loves to celebrate all the diverse cultures from around Lawton. The festival features free concerts, lots of food vendors, parades, children's activities and dance demonstrations. Don't miss the 2017 dates: September 22-24.
4. Oklahoma Czech Festival - Yukon
This annual celebration is is the largest outdoor free festival in Oklahoma. This fun festival celebrates Yukon's Czech heritage with Czech food, games, music, entertainment, marching bands, dancing and more festivities. Don't miss this beloved festival on October 7, 2017.
5. Tulsa Oktoberfest - Tulsa
Since 1979 Oklahomans have been enjoying the incredible celebration every October at the Tulsa Oktoberfest. The three-day event features German music, food, games, drinks and more. There's also a children's tent that will keep the little ones entertained for hours. (Next festival dates: October 19 -22, 2017)
6. The McAlester Italian Festival - McAlester
This festive two-day event takes place every May at the fairgrounds of the Pittsburg County Expo Center in McAlester. The Food Tent is filled with amazing Italian food and the shopping at the vendor booths has lots of unique items. There's live entertainment for whole family, so bring everyone of all ages and enjoy this Italian Festival next May.
7. Tulsa Greek Festival - Tulsa
If you love Greek food, then you must visit the Greek Festival September 21st - 23rd, 2017. You'll find all your favorite Greek pastries, gyros sandwiches, feta cheese and kalamata olives, spinach pies and more. Not only will you enjoy the food of Greece, but you'll be immersed in the culture of the Greek Islands. Enjoy live music, Greek folk dancing, shopping and kid's games.
8. Prague Kolache Festival - Prague
There's lots do do at the annual Prague Kolache Festival held on Main Street in Prague. Experience polka music, dancing, pony rides, carnival, food, entertainment, Czech costumes and tasting booths. The celebration is held the first Saturday in May and draws in over 20,000 visitors every year.
9. Scotfest - Tulsa
Oklahoma's premier Celtic music festival and Highland Games takes place every September at Tulsa’s River West Festival Park. This three-day festival offers something for all ages. There is a Scottish and American food court, live concerts, Scottish and Irish dancing, shopping, athletic competitions, parade of Celtic dogs and lots of workshops.
