There's just something dreamy about holiday lights and seasonal cheer, isn't there? Those are two things that can be found in abundance at the center of Cleveland each winter. Winterfest CLE, an annual tradition like no other, transforms the city in a magical way. Events, lights, and visits from a very special man in red make the holiday season memorable for visitors of all ages. Check it out:
Each year, Downtown Cleveland becomes a winter wonderland as the holiday season arrives.
While the event is a coveted tradition, things have changed in recent years. Now, in addition to on-site activities, many are offered virtually so that you can enjoy the fun from the warmth of your own home.
Winterfest, the festival of lights and holiday cheer begins in late November and continues through the New Year.
Throughout the entire month of December, Cleveland transforms into a magical destination. The city comes to life with twinkling lights, choir performances, dinners, and so much more.
Festive events take place throughout the whole city in response to the holiday cheer, from pop-up bars to ice skating to visits with Santa Claus, described by locals as a "jolly ol' elf."
Check out the link above for a full list of offerings. Santa stops by various local landmarks, and he even dons a scuba suit on select dates.
Many of those events take place at some of Cleveland's most iconic landmarks, like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Rock Hall is something of a centerpiece on its own with its brilliant lights and incredible ambiance. However, it takes on a new life surrounded by additional twinkling lights.
And while other landmarks may not be hosting events, they join in on the jinglin' and singin' and go all out with their decorations.
You just might be surprised to see where festivities are taking place! There's something going on everywhere in the city, it seems, from light shows to musical performances to holiday teas.
For many, walking or driving around the city just to see the lights is the highlight of the event.
Worried about dragging the kids around a busy city? You can enjoy many lights from the comfort of your car. You might not be able to see their faces light up if you're driving, but you'll hear their gasps of joy as they see how magical the landscape looks.
And, of course, seeing the Terminal Tower in festive colors is a special experience.
At one time, this tower was the tallest outside of New York City. Its construction was overseen by various Clevelanders, and many locals hold dear to stories from family members that worked on the landmark. It was completed in 1927 and has dazzled ever since.
Whatever you do, remember to bring a camera or a charged phone! You'll want to capture the magic of this annual event.
There are plenty of places that are perfect for family photos and selfies. Remember to bundle up, because that Lake Erie breeze can chill you to the bone!
