There's nothing like a good, old-fashioned day at the farm to put you in the proper fall spirit. While there are lots of amazing fall festivals in Ohio, for me, nothing beats the kind of wholesome experience found at a community harvest festival. Enjoying seasonal treats from local growers and bakers, admiring local art and handmade wares, and commingling with the community is an experience truly unlike any other. Add in the dynamic colors of fall foliage and crisp autumn air, and it's basically a Hallmark movie come to life. In my corner of Southwest Ohio, Anderson Township Historical Society Urban Farm puts on an annual harvest festival that's every bit as dreamy as the scene described above... and more!

Fall in Ohio is a delicious, drop-dead gorgeous time of year; a time of abundant foliage and shockingly blue skies, of crisp temperatures and the aromas of changing leaves and smoldering bonfires.

In my corner of the Buckeye State, we experience peak fall foliage in late October and well into November, making for a blissfully long season of autumn that's marked by numerous festivals and events...

...and the annual harvest festival put on by the Anderson Township Historical Society Urban Farm is easily my favorite harvest festival in Ohio.

This urban farmstead is a non-profit organization serving the residents Southwest Ohio. It is dedicated to preserving the history of the area, encouraging families to put down the screens and embrace nature with open arms (and iPhone-free hands!). As such, the farm makes itself available to the community with experiences, festivals, and lots of opportunities to gather, learn, and grow.

Each fall, this hidden gem opens its (barn) doors for a harvest fair that's peak "fall vibes" and absolutely delightful.

The harvest fair features local vendors selling artisan goodies such as honey and jams...

...and, speaking of jams, this harvest festival also features a robust lineup of live music that sets the scene for a delightful fall day in Ohio!

Families enjoy this event because it offers low-key "counter-programming" to some of the area's bigger and flashier fall festivals.

In years past, the festival has been held prior to Halloween, with kids invited to come in costume for some trick-or-treating on the farm grounds. This year's Harvest Fair is happening after Halloween, on November 4, 2023, and as such, will include a "holiday" market for some early Christmas shopping!
