While there's really no reason to leave the city limits of Cincinnati during the fall (there's so much to do!), there are many places that would make for a great little road trip if you're up for it. Fall is a wonderful time for a day trip and with so many festive, autumn-themed destinations, why not get out and explore? Grandma's Gardens, located south of Dayton in Waynesville, offers a few endearing features that make it worthy of a visit from the Tristate. Grandma's Gardens is a favorite garden center and gift shop located in the town of Waynesville, about an hour north of Cincinnati.
Perhaps you've taken a day trip to Waynesville before or maybe you are from the area and already know about this local gem. The garden center is open year round, but fall is particularly colorful and festive.
The entire 14-acre property transforms into a pumpkin wonderland with mums, other fall plants, gifts, decor, and more.
And on the weekends, this 40-year-old business is the place to be with little ones. On Saturdays and Sundays in October each year, Grandma's Gardens adds a few other features that the entire family will love.
The Sugar Pie Railway is open Saturdays and Sundays in October from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For only $6 per child (one parent may also ride for free), you can enjoy a ride on this mini pumpkin patch train near Cincinnati.
After purchasing a ticket at the garden center, you'll head over to get in line to board.
This adorable little train travels around the "fishin' hole" and makes a stop at the pumpkin patch. All ages will love this simple and charming fall day activitiy.

If not, there's enough to do here and throughout Waynesville to warrant a day trip. After each child has his/her pumpkin, you can take it into Grandpa's Barn to paint it and warm up with apple cider and popcorn (available for purchase).

And, of course, walk around and check out all of the beautiful plants, and also the gifts and decor that are available throughout.
