Cincinnati has endless opportunities for entertainment, some more pricey than others. But what does our city offer that won't cost you a thing? Turns out, there is quite a bit and this list only begins to scratch the surface of the fun you can have in Cincinnati without spending a dime.
1. Take a walk or bike along the riverfront.
We all know Cincinnati is situated right along the Ohio River, but how much time do you actually spend admiring the views? The walk along the river between Smale Park and Sawyer Point is beautiful, well-maintained and is also full of history and picturesque views.
2. Visit Everybody's Treehouse.
This hidden gem inside Mt. Airy Forest is the only handicap accessible treehouse in Ohio. Recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, if you have yet to check out this oasis in the woods, add it to your list of cost-free adventure.
3. Swing at Smale.
Smale Park is filled with free fun with a unique playground, fountains and gardens. But one of the best ways to relax - for free - is to claim one of the swings along the river and take in the view.
4. Take a self-guided tour of Spring Grove Cemetery.
Spring Grove Cemetery is full of history and is one of the most picturesque places in Cincinnati. While they do offer guided tours, you can download a map for free on their website (here) and either walk or drive through this incredibly interesting and beautiful spot in the city.
5. Enjoy a concert at Washington Park.
There is so much going on at Washington Park in OTR these days, and much of it is free. Check their website for event updates, but they often offer free concerts for the whole family, just bring a picnic blanket, chairs and your favorite snacks. There's nothing quite like listening to music in front of iconic Music Hall.
6. View the exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center.
If you have yet to visit this unique space on 6th Street downtown, you're really missing out. Admission is free to view the changing exhibitions and you'll love the colorful, engaging display of art throughout the center.
7. Meet friends at a concert at Eden Park.
Hearing a concert at Seasongood Pavilion in Eden Park is a Cincinnati tradition. Concerts are held seasonally and include some family-friendly options.
8. Stroll through Findlay Market on a beautiful morning.
Of course, there is money-spending risk involved with this one, given the variety and quality of items available at Findlay Market. But technically it is free to roam through the shops and stands and experience one of Cincinnati's most treasured features.
9. Dance the night away on Fountain Square.
In recent years, Fountain Square has become the bustling center of our city with several free events and concerts. One unique way to enjoy the square is to visit on a Thursday evening for "Salsa on the Square." See if you can keep up with other salsa dancers and maybe learn a thing or two.
