Many iconic places around Cincinnati have changed over the years, as change is inevitable. If you've lived in the Queen City for awhile, you likely have memories of visiting Coney Island in Cincinnati, or taking your children there, and riding the nostalgic rides. You may have heard that the park has decided to remove the rides and focus on the water attractions, which are also popular. This news was met with some resistance, as you may imagine, but you do have one more chance to check out these classic rides. This Saturday, September 21st, Coney Island is hosting Fire Up The Night and it's the perfect opportunity to take one last spin, dip, and swing on the rides, as well as catch a magnificent fireworks display and competition.
Editor's note: Unfortunately, Coney Island has permanently closed.
Believe it or not, Coney Island in Cincinnati has been a destination for family fun for over 130 years.
That means generations have enjoyed the rides, games, massive pool, and other attractions that make this a favorite place in the Queen City. Coney Island and Sunlite Pool have seen many changes over the years, and moving forward things will look quite different.
The park recently announced that after this season it will remove all of its classic rides, in order to focus on its water attractions.
While Sunlite Water Adventure is an extremely popular part of the park, many locals were saddened by the news.
Coney Island has long been a great destination for families with young children especially, who are too small to enjoy the larger rides at other area amusement parks.
There will still be much to love about Coney Island and Sunlite Pool, but if you'd like one last chance to ride these nostalgic rides, you'll want to head to the Fire Up The Night event this Saturday, September 21st.
Fire Up The Night is the only international fireworks competition in the country.
Along with impressive fireworks shows from three different countries and our local Rozzi's Famous Fireworks, the park's attractions will be open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is $25 per carload and that includes all of the rides and the fireworks show.
The pool may be closed and drained for the season, but that means it will be the setting for the World's Largest "Empty" Pool Party, which will also be a part of the event.
There will be inflatables and other forms of entertainment right in the middle of Sunlite Pool. The entire park takes part in Fire Up The Night, making it a great way to spend time as a family and officially say goodbye to summer.
And of course you'll want to have a chance to have one last experience on your favorite Coney ride.
These rides will be auctioned off (some have already found local homes!), and there will be a few attractions that stay put. The Paddle Boats and Cincy Mini Golf will both remain at the park alongside new attractions that are sure to come.
While we must say goodbye to a beloved chapter of Coney Island's history, we do have the memories of times spent on these nostalgic rides.
Locals can now look forward to new adventures at Coney Island and Sunlite Pool and soon we will have plenty of new memories at this beloved, classic Cincinnati destination.
