Beautifully located on the banks of the Ohio River, Sedamsville is one of the smallest neighborhoods in Cincinnati, made up of just a few streets. Once a bustling spot along the river, it's now in the process of revitalization and a big part of that is its crowning jewel, the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and the adjacent Rectory. But, as with most historic buildings, the Sedamsville Rectory is the source of quite a few ghost stories that may just give you nightmares. Let's delve into the notoriously haunted Sedamsville Rectory history, shall we?
Built over 120 years ago, Our Lady of Perpetual Help was once a thriving church in the heart of the small neighborhood of Sedamsville.
With its location along both the river and railroad, Sedamsville was a hub for manufacturing until a devastating flood and the widening of River Road. At the height of its popularity, the church was so prosperous that they added the adjacent Rectory, which is now the source of quite a few haunted tales.
When the church closed, the buildings were saved from demolition and continue to be restored today.
It was during this restoration process that the Rectory began getting national attention for its paranormal activity.
Featured on several ghostly TV shows, many paranormal experts have visited and the reports are overwhelmingly terrifying.
One particular story comes from a ghost chaser who received a mysterious scratch on his back in the form of a cross. No one knows exactly why the building would be haunted, but there are rumors of questionable priests who once lived there. The real truth is, we'll probably never know what actually happened behind these walls. We can only hear the stories of those who have investigated and form opinions for ourselves.
The historic Rectory continues to undergo renovation and, rumors have spread that it will eventually be rentable through Airbnb.
