North Carolina is full of history and haunts. From famous estates, to a particular ghost who haunts a hotel, and even roads where your car is pushed up a hill - things get strange here in the Tar Heel state. 1. Grove Park Inn

If there was a title of North Carolina's most famous ghost, it would go to the Pink Lady of the Grove Park Inn. Perhaps a debutante or scorned lover, she fell to her death in the hotel and seems to have never left. Her room is the particular hotbed for paranormal activity but she's said to be a kind ghost. 2. Old Wilkes Jail

3. Helen's Bridge

While a lovely piece of architectural history in Asheville, Helen's Bridge also has a haunting history. After her daughter died in a fire, a grief-stricken Helen hung herself from the bridge. Yet, people believe it's not just her spirit that haunts the bridge. It's such a hotbed for paranormal activity that multiple investigators have been brought in. 4. Devil's Tramping Ground

Perhaps the first haunted story any North Carolinian hears about is the Devil's Tramping Ground. The mysterious patch of land where nothing will grow has been boggling scientists, researchers, believers and nonbelievers for decades. It's even available for a night of camping for those who dare. 5. Gravity Hill

While the Maco Lights haven't been seen in quite some time, it's the one North Carolina legend you MUST know. Joe Baldwin died here in a tragic train accident and since that time a floating light believed to be his lantern has been seen along the tracks. 8. Brown Mountain Lights

The one haunting you can definitively see, the Brown Mountain Lights have puzzled generations. As nightfall approaches over Brown Mountain, orbs of light appear above the treetops. The lights have been attributed to everything from ghosts of a Native American battle to 'swamp gas,' and scientists and researchers have spent years trying to discover the source of the mysterious lights to no avail. 10. Payne / Edwards Road

You have to have some serious bravery to drive down the haunted Payne (actually Edwards) road late at night by yourself. While beautiful countryside during the day, the night takes on a terrifying aesthetic based around the multiple legends revolving around this road.
