After experiencing a December that hasn't been able to make up its mind on whether or not it's truly winter yet, it's beginning to look like almost all of our residents will see a white Christmas this year! Once all the excitement of the holidays begins to die down, you might start planning out how exactly you're going to prevent yourself from going stir-crazy this season. Many New Yorkers have made an annual tradition out of winter activities like snow tubing or visiting a local toboggan chute. But if you're interested in enjoying a bobsledding in New York experience that you'll positively never forget? Then you must keep reading!
Host of both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, the town of Lake Placid is full of seasonal activities that will make your winter complete.
As seen from above, Lake Placid is home to not only some of the best ski resorts in New York, but also to the historic Olympic Sports Complex where athletes and Olympians from all around the world come to practice on this famous track.
The only combined bobsled, luge and skeleton track east of the Rockies, the remarkable track is experienced in a variety of ways by visitors.
Giving you the opportunity to feel like an actual Olympian, those who visit the Olympic Sports Complex can choose to experience the track via a bobsled, luge sled or skeleton sled.
You won't believe the speeds you'll reach as you make your way to the bottom, sending you soaring down the track at up to 55MPH. You'll go far faster than you will on any of the sled riding hills in New York!
Led by a professional driver and brakeman, packages like the complex's Bobsled Experience include perks like receiving a bobsled pin, t-shirt, photo and discount off a second ride down the track.
Better than any rollercoaster that you'll ever experience, the roughly minute-long ride will take you through both open and enclosed parts of the track.
Better than you could ever expect, it's greatly encouraged to make reservations beforehand for this popular experience.
Whether you're decided to experience the track in a bobsled, skeleton sled or luge sled, you'll want to call at least 72 hours ahead of time to make your reservation. Those who opt for the Skeleton or Luge Experiences will start at the quarter-mile mark on the track and must be at least 13 years or older. Visitors interested in checking out the Bobsled Experience must be at least 48" tall and sign a waiver before riding. Getting to ride down the same track that so many Olympians do in such a historic spot is an experience that everyone deserves to mark off of their New York bucket list!
