If you find yourself fascinated by the beauty of historic churches, then New York is the place you should visit. If you weren't already aware, you can actually find the world's smallest church in the city of Oneida! Some of New York's most unbelievable outdoor treasures can also be found down in the Catskill Mountains, many of which happen to be hiding in plain sight. Within the historic district of Cragsmoor, you'll find one small chapel that features the most unforgettable setting.
If you've ever visited the town of Cragsmoor, there's a good chance that you've passed the Cragsmoor Stone Church on your way to Sam's Point Preserve!
One of the most beautiful places you can explore in this area, Sam's Point Preserve is just a couple miles up the road from Cragsmoor Stone Church. The historic district that includes almost the entire hamlet of Cragsmoor was placed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 1996, including the church.
A Gothic-style chapel that looks like something out of a fairy tale, the Cragsmoor Stone Church is decorated in unique stained glass windows.
When you pull up to the Cragsmoor Stone Church you'll see a sign that reads "The Chapel of the Holy Name," also stating that it is an Episcopal church. Interestingly enough though, the stained glass windows all feature symbolism from eight of the world's most well-known religions, welcoming all denominations for ceremonies.
Inside, the chapel is generally able to hold about one hundred guests for a ceremony, making for a intimate location to celebrate.
Open as a venue from April through November, the Cragsmoor Stone Church makes for a beautiful setting for any kind of wedding ceremony. From the picturesque mahogany front doors to the overall rustic charm of the location, you'll never be able to forget a celebration at this location.
Putting you at nearly 2,000 feet in elevation, you can walk over to the stone archway outside of the chapel that overlooks an endless vista of the Shawangunk Ridge.
Built in 1895, the Gothic architecture carries on throughout the property with a beautiful stone archway where many choose to say their vows to each other. The archway overlooks the breathtaking Shawangunk Ridge, where you'll be able to see for up to 50 miles out into the distance.
