Griffis Sculpture Park, in East Otto, NY, is one of the largest parks of its type in the country - and we think this New York sculpture park is probably one of the quirkiest places you will ever go. Read on to find out why!
Tucked into western New York’s Enchanted Mountains, Griffis Sculpture Park is one of the most unusual places you may ever visit.
Its 450 acres of wooded grounds are populated by large-scale metal (steel) sculptures.
More than 250 of these outsized works of art are scattered throughout the park.
The experience of walking among these leviathan representations can range from whimsical to, well, a little creepy.
Kids love the park, though. There are few sacred cows here (maybe a few metal ones), and kids of all ages are free to interact with the art in the way that makes them happiest.
Different pieces invite different reactions. Some may result in the need to do yoga… or breakdance.
Others may evoke a more contemplative experience (hookahs not provided).
Visit during one of the park’s night openings to add another layer of surrealism to your experience!
The park regularly hosts events like concerts.
It’s a spectacular venue for an outdoor show during the summer.
For additional information on hours, admission, the collection, and upcoming events, visit the Griffis Sculpture Park website. While you're in the area, be sure to pay a visit to the charming Ellicottville Country Store, in the nearby town of the same name. It's housed in a historic building that dates back to 1870, and it's been serving customers since the 1930s.
