Here are nine must-see museums that you should visit:

1. Albright-Knox Art Gallery (1285 Elmwood Avenue)

The Albright-Knox showcases modern and contemporary art in an impressive setting. The museum has a collection of over 6,700 pieces – featuring works from artists such as Vincent van Goh and Henri Rousseau.

2. Buffalo History Museum (1 Museum Court)

The Buffalo History Museum's mission is to share the stories of Buffalo's past. Inside the museum, you'll find artifacts, paintings, remnants from Buffalo's industrial era, and more!

3. Buffalo Museum of Science (1020 Humboldt Parkway)

The Buffalo Museum of Science is a staple in Western New York's museum scene, with several permanent exhibits as well as traveling and hands-on rooms for adults and children alike.

4. Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park (1 Naval Park Cove)

You've seen the large naval ships on the shores of Lake Erie before, but did you know you can venture inside them? The Buffalo Naval Park showcases exhibits and displays with everything from documents and photographs to uniforms, military gear, and the actual ships that have played a major part in U.S. naval history.

5. Burchfield Penney (1300 Elmwood Avenue)

The Burchfield Penney is another great art gallery and museum, located on Elmwood Avenue. The museum holds the largest collection of its namesake, Charles Burchfield's, work and is affiliated with Buffalo State College, promoting the arts and encouraging artistic study.

6. Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum (180 Thompson Street, North Tonawanda)

If you're searching for a sense of nostalgia, the Carrousel Factory will bring your childhood memories back to life! This museum, located in North Tonawanda, houses a fully operational carousel that was built in 1916 as well as several artifacts and "retired" carousel horses. Along with being able to ride the carousel, visitors to the museum can also enjoy hands-on workshops such as woodcarving, guided tours, and a summer lecture series.

7. Darwin Martin House (125 Jewett Parkway)

We've said it before and we'll say it again: if you live in Buffalo, you need to get to the Darwin Martin House! Frank Lloyd Wright's creation is worthy of the walkthrough time. Along with viewing the beauty of Wright's work, you'll also learn a lot about the famous architect who built some of his creations right here in our neighborhood.

8. Explore & More Children's Museum (300 Gleed Avenue, East Aurora)

Explore & More Children's Museum is a great place to spend the afternoon with your kids. And, coming soon, you'll be able to spend much more time exploring the exhibits when the museum makes its big move to a much larger space at Canalside!

9. Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow-Museum (263 Michigan Avenue)

Learn about the history of Buffalo transportation at the Pierece-Arrow Museum, located on the corner of Seneca Street and Michigan Avenue downtown. The museum holds several notable artifacts from Buffalo's history, including the 1927 Buffalo Filling Station by Frank Lloyd Wright!
