Now that August is here, we're doing all that we can to get the most use out of our bathing suits and summer clothes before we pack them away again for the year. With only so much time left to get out and take advantage of certain outdoor attractions, we're constantly looking for adventure inspiration! One of our favorite kinds of attractions to explore during the warmer months? Waterfalls!
Ready to go exploring in the Catskill Mountains? If you haven't already, you'll want to visit this one attraction in New York before the summer is over:
Taking you along the winding Mountain Clove Scenic Byway, the drive to get to this popular attraction is nothing short of picturesque.
From where you'll park right off of NYS Route 23A, you'll have a short walk to the trailhead.
The walk along this road is short but with a relatively consistent flow of cars, you'll want to be sure that you're paying attention to your surroundings at all times. Depending on which way you're coming from, you'll get a sneak peak of the trailhead on the drive to the parking lot. Another thing to keep in mind? The parking lot isn't huge. So, the earlier you can arrive for this adventure, the better!

The adventure begins at the trailhead right off of the road, with a short half-mile hike.
Visible from the road, you'll be able to explore down around Bastion Falls at the very beginning of the hike. Depending on what time of year you visit, this roughly 70-foot waterfall can have either a powerful stream running down it or just a low trickle.
Explored by visitors of all ages, the hike is quick and considered easy by most who walk it but... be sure to wear good shoes!
We're a sucker for trails that bring us right by the water! The short but sweet trail follows Spruce Creek.
After hardly any time at all, you'll find yourself amazed and standing right before Kaaterskill Falls.
One of the largest waterfalls you'll find in New York, Kaaterskill Falls has been a long time attraction. The trail will take to you the base of the falls, where you'll be able to take in the entire view of the two-tiered waterfall. Be prepared to feel small!
There's no denying the beauty of this waterfall, but we also can't forget about the danger.
For as long as this waterfall has been a popular attraction, it's been known as a dangerous place to visit. Every year deaths occur at Kaaterskill Falls and it is highly advised that you be careful while exploring.
The two-tiered waterfall has unbelievable views from the top.
Looking like the perfect pool pulled straight from your dreams, the water pictured below is a favorite area for visitors to cool off in during the summer.
