Peaking it's way out from the mountaintop down in the small town of Garrison, Castle Rock is a historic hidden gem of New York.
Those looking to enjoy a hike that leads them somewhere spectacular are encouraged to come and explore the Castle Rock Unique Area.
The woodland area was once owned by the Osborn family who still privately own Castle Rock, until the land was donated to the state years ago which is now open to the public.
Because Castle Rock is still privately owned by the Osborn family you won't be able to explore things too closely, but you will get a view of the structure and Hudson Valley area.
Originally built back in 1881, Castle Rock remains mostly empty nowadays and can be seen by those who are traveling along Route 9D in Garrison.
A national landmark since 1977, Castle Rock is definitely not the average discovery you have while you're out hiking in New York.
Those who come to explore the area can hike along the Gazebo Trail that's less than a mile long. The hike is one that's quite moderate, with only a few steep sections towards the top that might slightly tire you out. The trail will take you to a gazebo that gives you a view of the Hudson River and iconic destinations like West Point, as well as getting you close to Castle Rock.
