With millions of people living in the Big Apple and buildings as far as the eye can see, it's easy for historic treasures to remain under your radar. While I've previously discussed 11 Fascinating Secrets About Grand Central Terminal that you may have never known about, there's actually an entire subway station that you may have never even heard of. Ready to test your knowledge? Let's see if you know about this gorgeous but abandoned subway system that's hiding beneath the streets of New York City!
The first subway station in New York City, the platform opened in 1904 and remained open until 1945.
An amazing and beautiful piece of New York City's history, the platform is now no longer in use.

Looking to pave the way for the city's subway system, the City Hall Station was designed with luxurious details that went unappreciated.
A sight that takes visitor's breath away, the City Hall Station ended up being one of the least used platforms in the subway station. Most of the city's commuters would use the nearby Brooklyn Bridge stop that was a bit more convenient for travelers.
Today, you can now only visit the abandoned station by taking a tour with the New York City Transit Museum.
As soon as people see pictures of the beautiful station, they instantly want to know where it is and how they can visit it. Once open to the public for quite sometime, the station can now only be seen by tour from the Transit Museum.
So, how do you go about taking this tour? First, you'll have to be a member of the museum, which requires a $50 dollar fee. The next upcoming tour takes place on October 1st but to no surprise is already sold out. If you're truly interested in taking a tour of this place, we advise you become a member of the museum and keep an eye out for your emails. These tours always sell out quick and are offered relatively frequently!

So what was the cause of this station's demise?
When the station was built, it featured curved platforms that were considered aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, as the times changed and the size of train cars increased, the platform no longer became functional to newer cars.
