Every now and then while you're driving around the city of Buffalo, you'll find yourself pulling over along the road to stop and check out something twice. Whether it was your eyes playing tricks on you or genuinely stumbling upon something quirky, we've all had this experience at least once or twice! Well, if you're ready to seek out what bizarre roadside attractions truly exist here in and around Buffalo then it's time you take a look at this quirky list we've compiled for you!
1. Tree Creations (Geneseo)
Almost exactly 1.5 hours east of Buffalo, Tree Creations is a one-of-a-kind attraction near Conesus Lake. Just beyond the city's walls in the town of Geneseo, Tree Creations will make everyone fee like a kid again. Local Joe Ferrero constructed an entire treehouse wonderland in his own yard and opens it up to the public during warmer months. If you've ever driven past these cars up in the trees, now you know what it's all about!
Address: 4677 Lakeville Groveland Road, Geneseo, NY 14454
2. World's Largest Six Pack (Buffalo)
It may be our favorite local brewery, but to the rest of the country, Buffalo RiverWorks is the world's largest six-pack! Transforming grain elevators into a unique playground for Buffalonians, you can now zipline between the world's largest six-pack, dine along the riverfront, rent kayaks, and so much more.
Address: 359 Ganson Street, Buffalo, NY 14203
3. The Big Apple (Medina)
Only an hour east of Buffalo, The Big Apple in Medina is exactly what it sounds like - a giant roadside apple. Right along the Erie Canal on Glenwood Avenue, the town's massive apple was built back in 2000 by artist Richard Banister. While it may not be unusual to see an apple along the roadside, it's certainly strange to see one of this size and so far away from the actual Big Apple!
4. Shark Girl (Buffalo)
Head to Canalside to find one of the quirkiest attractions in Western New York: Shark Girl. Set to undergo renovations after Labor Day this year, if you've yet to see her it's best to do so before the upcoming work starts!
5. World's Largest Pancake Griddle (Penn Yan)
Two hours east of Buffalo, the small town of Penn Yan's Main Street is where you'll find the world's largest pancake griddle. Weighing a total of 10 tons and stretching across 28 feet, the world's largest pancake was made right here in New York back in September of 1987. If you weren't able to witness this deliciously good event back in the day, you can drive by The Birkett Mills to see the griddle outside on display.
Address: 1 East Main Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527
6. Vidler on the Roof (East Aurora)
Take the charming drive out to East Aurora and before you know it, you'll be making your way past the famous Vidler on the Roof. The face of the largest variety store of its kind in the entire world, Vidler's 5 & 10 greets you with its rooftop statue that watches over the entire town. If you're lucky enough to have this rooftop fellow grab your attention, be sure to stop into the store to see what other magical surprises await you!
Address: 676 Main Steet, East Aurora, NY 14052
7. Jello-O Gallery Museum (Le Roy)
Did you know that there's an actual museum dedicated to the history of Jell-O hiding just an hour away from Buffalo? While we've certainly been known to have some strange museums here in Western New York, it's not every day that you get to walk into a museum dedicated to our favorite jiggly dessert!
