When you enter the little town of Chittenango, you're definitely not in Kansas anymore. This small town in New York is famous as the birthplace of L. Frank Baum, the author of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and its many sequels. The book was a bestseller and became a nationwide phenomenon when adapted into a film in 1939. If you're planning a visit to Chittenango and want to get some of that special Oz magic, stop by the All Things Oz Museum.
The All Things Oz Museum is a volunteer-run facility that displays all kinds of Oz-themed memorabilia.
The museum is self-guided and sometimes offers volunteer-run tours. If you walk through it yourself, there are QR codes available to scan and learn more information about the exhibits.
They've got a surprising array of items in their collection, and more than 1,000 are on display at any given time.
They have costumes used in the original 1939 film (as well as spin-offs like "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz"), books, and autographs.
There's some really unusual stuff here!
Seriously, you have no idea how many Wizard of Oz knick knacks exist until you see this place.
Baum's Bazaar, the gift shop, has anything Oz-related that you could ever want. Books, DVDs, nutcrackers, aprons: it's heaven on earth for an Oz fan.
The shop is named after the retail store that L. Frank Baum operated in South Dakota in the late 1880s.
Each year, the organization that runs the museum puts on a festival called Oz-Stravaganza. The festival includes a parade and attracts thousands of attendees.
