It's no secret that New Orleans is one of the most spooky and haunted places in Louisiana. But have you visited all of the most haunted places in New Orleans? The majority of them can be found in the French Quarter, where the ghoulish ambience pervades each and every foggy night. Here are the most spooky spots throughout New Orleans!
1) Dueling Oak, City Park, New Orleans
Previously two live oak in what was once a secluded place in the city, the dueling oaks was the place where men went to settle their differences by duel. Some people met their deaths here, including Micajah Green Lewis, C.C. Claiborne's private secretary. You can still feel the energies of conflict and death visiting here.
2) Le Pavillon Hotel, 833 Poydras St.
This luxury hotel in the CBD is an amazing place to spend a weekend in New Orleans. But many have reported hauntings and ghost sightings here, including spirits laughing in halls, being seen lingering in the hotel bar, and many more.
3) Sultan’s Palace aka The Gardette-LaPrete House, 1240 Burgundy St.
This unique mansion in the French Quarter became infamous because of the foreign Turkish owner who moved in during the late 19th century. This Turkish foreigner moved in with an entire entourage--and that entire entourage met their untimely death in the mansion. Rumor says that the Turkish man was actually a relative of the Sultan in Turkey, and was escaping his death in New Orleans. Eventually his past caught up with him, though, and he is said to have been buried alive here.
4) Hotel Monteleone, 214 Royal St.
This majestic hotel in the heart of the French Quarter is known for its hauntings and spirits. A particular ghost that stands out is the tale of Maurice Begere. While his parents were at the opera, Maurice died in the hotel from a fever on the 14th floor. Guests say that they still see the spirit of the young boy wandering the halls.
5) Jean Lafitte’s Old Absinthe House, 240 Bourbon St.
This 200 year old bar on Bourbon street is said to be most haunted by the ghost of Jean Lafitte himself.
6) Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar Shop, 941 Bourbon St.
Many claim this shop is the oldest continuously operating bar in the nation, getting its start in the early 1700s. Numerous spirits and ghosts have been spotted here, including that of Marie Laveau.
7) LaLaurie Mansion, 1140 Royal St.
The tale of the brutal Delphine LaLaurie is notorious in the French Quarter, detailing the ways she tortured her slaves in the house, and was eventually run out of town by a mob of hateful residents.
8) Arnaud's and French 75 Bar, 813 Bienville St.
Another New Orleans institution that has been serving New Orleanians for over 100 years, Arnaud's is said to be haunted by some of its original owners, "Count" Arnaud Cazenave.
9) The Jimani House (formerly The Upstairs Lounge), 141 Chartres St.
This bar was the site of a brutal arson attack of the gay patrons in 1973, which led to the death of over 30 people. Many say they can still sense the individual's presence here.
