With a city as old as New Orleans, it seems reasonable that there are some places that have a ghost or two that they can’t shake. Whether you’re a believer or not, it’s interesting to see some of the oldest establishments in the city and their strange, paranormal experiences they’ve had. Let’s take a look at these seven haunted locations in New Orleans.

1. Tujaque’s

The city’s 2nd oldest restaurant opened in 1856, and this popular restaurant seems to have a spirit that may still be lurking around. The spirit’s name is Julian Eltinge, who was a famous actor over a century ago. Eltinge had a habit of dressing up like a woman, and a signed picture of him hung on the wall since 1917, but in 2013 the picture was stored in the attic. This must have angered Eltinge, because when the photo was moved people kept claiming to have seen him, even photo-bombing a photo of two customer who were dining in the restaurant one evening. The photo has since been put back in the restaurant and it seems Eltinge is happy now. 823 Decatur St., New Orleans LA 70116.

2. Court of Two Sisters

In the late 1800s, Creole sisters Bertha and Emma Camors ran a clothing and costume shop out of the building. The two sisters shared a very close bond, and remained best friends until the end. The sisters died within two months of each other, and are buried next to each other in St. Louis Cemetery #3. Several patrons have reported seeing the sisters in the restaurants courtyard, sitting together at a table. 613 Royal St., New Orleans, LA 70130.

3. Pat O’Brien’s

Known for their hurricanes, this popular French Quarter spot has many people believing there are spirits running around. The two hot spots seem to be the Piano Bar and the upstairs women’s restroom. The piano has been known to start playing when no one is around it, staff have heard footsteps when there is no one in sight, and some believe they have been pushed. The women’s restroom is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a restroom attendant from years past, who is known to walk around, laughing and sighing. 718 St. Peter St., New Orleans, LA 70116.

4. Muriel’s Restaurant

Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan built his dream home in what is now Muriel’s Restaurant. He spent years tinkering with it, getting everything the way he wanted only to lose his house in a poker bet. Rather than move out, Jourdan committed suicide in the house, and it is believed that his ghost still wanders through the building. 801 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70116.

5. Brennan’s

The restaurant itself dates back to 1946, but the building dates back much further. It’s believed that there are a handful of spirits wandering this famous restaurant, one being former chef Paul Blange. Blange passed away in 1977, but many believe that he still watches over the kitchen, banging pots and pans together and sometimes touching the workers. There have been sightings of an old woman peering through the windows of one of the rooms, but perhaps the most disturbing is what had stuck around in the Red Room. One of the original owners of the property fell into some financial troubles, and his solution was to murder his wife and child before hanging himself. 6. Arnaud’s

More than one waiter has claimed to see a man dressed in a turn of the century tuxedo, standing in the corner of the dining room, smiling and surveying the area. It’s believed that the man is Count Arnaud himself, just popping in to check in on things. 813 Bienville St., New Orleans, LA 70112.

7. La Pavillon Hotel

There are a few different ghost sightings here at this famous hotel on Poydras. One paranormal investigation claims that the area is home to over 100 spirits, unable to move on because some believe the property the hotel sits on is actually a portal to the other side. While some rooms seem to have more paranormal activity than others, several have reported waking up in the middle of the night to see a woman dressed in all black sitting near the foot of the bed. Others have reported seeing a couple dressed in 1920s attire walking around the lobby on the first floor. There’s also the spirit of a little girl named Ava who has been seen several times in room 930. 833 Poydras St., New Orleans, LA 70112.
