Welcome to the Santa Rosa Blue Hole!
This blue hole is a true gem in Santa Rosa. Located roughly two hours or less from almost anywhere in New Mexico, this incredible diving spot is the perfect place to get out and into the water.
Despite being in desert territory, this little lake holds strong.
Being surrounded by red mesa and desert, this crystal clear lake defies its surroundings and truly defines Santa Rosa. Nomadic tribes and cowboys used to find rest at this astounding sinking lake, which used to be called Blue Lake, since it stayed pristine despite little rain.
This is the go-to for scuba divers everywhere, and it's not hard to see why.
Scuba divers drive up to ten hours to dive in this perfectly clear blue water. You can dive the Blue Hole all year, even winter, thanks to the constant spring flow that keeps the water temperature at a stable 61 degrees. Because they work so hard to upkeep water quality, visibility is a consistent 100 feet.
The water is about 4,600 feet above sea level, which means you can reach altitudes of up to 8,000 feet if you're driving right after, so it is suggested that you make a safe dive plan. Blue Hole provides a preparation guide. Blue Hole also offers the best In-Land scuba training around! You can find out more about diving permits, training, and more on their website right here.
The sapphire blue water stays in crystal clear pristine condition, and it's staying that way.
Despite a run off of water, Blue Hole does everything in their power to preserve the clarity and condition of the water. This crystalline water completely renews itself every six hours, so it is truly never the same lake.
There's more to this scuba diving spot.
This lake descends deep into caverns that have been mapped out, and though the caverns are blocked off from exploration, you can still dive deeper than 100 feet!
Besides scuba diving, this spot is an incredible attraction for all.
Blue Hole has also become a convention center in which people can host everything from weddings to business events. What better place to make an amazing impression?
On a hot summer day, Blue Hole is the perfect place to dive on in.
