The Turquoise Trail is one of our state’s most lovely scenic byways. However, the most visually unexpected stop along this drive is man-made rather than natural. It’s hard to imagine how to improve on scenery like this, but this origami garden in New Mexico does just that.
Please note that Origami in the Garden at Box Studio and Sculpture Garden is closed until May 2024 while the studio works on making new origami gardens. For more information visit the studio’s website.
It's hard to believe something this gorgeous exists.
But owners Kevin Box and Jennifer Box have managed it.
The Turquoise Trail Sculpture Garden and Studio is part of their private home. The two artists allow visitors access between Memorial Day and Labor Day each year.
Inside this three-acre sculpture garden, you’ll find art that both complements and contrasts with its surroundings.
A visit to Greece inspired Kevin Box to transition from the graphic arts to sculpture. He wanted to create art that endured. It took Box years to learn how to cast paper in bronze.

Origami is usually short-lived but Box found a way to keep the fragile feel of paper and meld it with the strength of bronze.
