If you're a history buff, checking out state capitol buildings might be your thing, but even if you aren't, New Mexico's State Capitol building is one worth visiting. Not only is this the only state capitol that's a round-shaped building, but it's also home to a unique art museum that welcomes visitors to wander freely. You can spend all day strolling around this memorable capitol building, basking in all of the Southwest art and history that lies within. This is definitely not your typical state capitol building, but New Mexico State Capitol is also an art museum, and it's so worth the visit.
Welcome to the New Mexico State Capitol Building!
Unbeknownst to many, this beautiful building is also home to an art museum.
The building itself is art, too. This capitol building is informally named the "Roundhouse" because it's the only round state capitol building in the country.
The Capitol Art Foundation was established in 1991 and they acquired the art for the permanent exhibits that now exist in the building.
Throughout the building are various styles of art and sculptures, but they all are an ode to the many different people of New Mexico.
Self-guided tours are available daily, or you can call to schedule a guided tour to learn even more.
Even if you aren't a fan of historical government buildings, the unique New Mexico State Capitol is the best way to spend an afternoon. The best part? It's free!
New Mexico State Capitol is anything but average, and you need to see its beauty for yourself.
