The United States may not have a queen but New Jersey does. I'm not talking about the beauty queens in Atlantic City, no. I'm talking about the Pork Roll Queen. You won't find one anywhere else and it's quite the honor. So, how exactly does one become the Pork Roll Queen of the Garden State? It all starts with a simple sign up process, but it ends with fun in droves!
You won't need a ballgown or a bikini for this pageant!
But you will need to love Pork Roll. When you register for the contest (it's free!) you will be asked a series of questions. Pork Roll or Taylor Ham? Why do you feel you'd be a good Pork Roll Queen? And, of course, what's your talent?
Though the former queens ARE stunning, this isn't a beauty pageant.
Queens of all shapes, sizes, and ages are encouraged to enter. One of last year's contestants was just 4 years old, performing Let It Go from Frozen as her talent. How does one stand out? A passion for Pork Roll. Previous winners have snagged the title by reciting Pork Roll poetry and performing single-handed handstands, while using the other hand to hold (and eat) a Pork Roll sandwich.
So, where can you score this sash?
At The Pork Roll Festival in Trenton. You must apply online by Wednesday, May 22nd.
The Pork Roll Festival offers more than just a pageant!
Attendees will enjoy a full day of fun, including live music, a beer garden, vendors, food trucks, children's events, an art zone, and a recipe contest.
