There are beautiful Christmas Trees in towns all across New Jersey but we know of only one like the tree in Normandy Beach. There's no official tree lighting and it's not sponsored by the city...this tree got its start in December 2012, following Hurricane Sandy. Much of the town was devastated by the storm and Sue Buzzi placed a little Christmas tree on the beach at 2nd Avenue as a sign of hope.
The next year, Sue and Jack Buzzi put up a bigger tree. Seven years later, the tree has become a beloved local tradition.
They've now got help from the Nolan and Lill families who help light and maintain the tree.
It's become a big part of the community, and everyone can add an ornament. You'll find instructions and supplies.
The families keep the tree stocked with drilled shells for ornaments, zip ties for hanging, and markers for decorating.
If you're in the area, visit Patti's Kitchen for breakfast/lunch or Blue sushi for dinner.
If you visit, check out all the delightful designs or add your own ornament. Some choose to write a simple message or draw a holiday design while others choose to honor loved ones. Each ornament is unique and special and the tree is beautiful both day or night! Share your photos with us in the comments, and thanks to Joseph Ritacco for the fantastic photos in this article.
